principal caught falsifying standardized tests. long-time jesup elementary school principal-brian pottebaum was cited by the iowa board of education in august. this is jesup elementary. principal pottebaum only oversees the elemtary schools and the staff. even after being cited - he is still employed as principal of the school. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh has been digging deeper into this incident. elizabeth. am - education received a complaint against pottebaum back in march. but after an investigation by the board found pottebaum responsible and later an ethics complaint, filed aginst jesup elementary principal brian pottebuam - seen here in an interview from a previous kwwl story... the complaint claims pottebaum "provided unauthorized accomodations to children who were not qualified for accomodations." not following standard test procedures - he gave photocopied test booklets to

photocopied test booklets and later teachers used the answers in the test booklets to fill out the student's answer sheets. pottebaum waived his right to a hearing - agreeing with the board on a settlement. given a written reprimand and told to complete 15 hours ethics course. standup "i've reached out to principal pottebaum multiple times, but he refused to speak with us on camera." instead sending us this statement which reads in part "it was my interpretation that this was an appropriate accommodatn was not. even though the resulted in the identified violation. the intention was to make sure these students could complete the required assessments without undue stress related to the mechanics of holding a pencil and filling in small ovals." now based on the 2015 state report card of jesup elementary - the school was labeled as a school in need of assistance in both the "math proficiency" and "reading proficiency" standardized test

mills was taken into custody after he tried to run from police. mason city officers accuse him of shooting and killing the two victims at around two-15 this morning in mason city. he's charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is in the cerro gordo county jail tonight. bail is denied for a man accused of killing a toddler. kyrian knox's body was found in a park lagoon in chicago last year. his mh with kamel harris as she moved from cedar rapids to chicago. police believe the child was lactose intolerant and cried for an entire afternoon after having milk. investigators think harris snapped. they found the boy's blood in harris' car and arrested him -- he's now charged with murder. new at six -- the eastern iowa airport celebrating the end of its second of four phases to its 55- million dollar

renovation focuses largely on the public areas of the airport with a new lobby waiting area, ticket counters, and baggage claim -- "we're completely tax-empted, or tax-free excuse me. we recieved no local tax dollars whatsoever from the community so we're very proud of that. all of this project is being done without the use of local tax dollars." the third phase of renovations that includen more jet ways and security areas. the linn county board of supervisors welcoming their first black member today--with the swearing in of stacey walker. walker was elected for the position earlier this month. kwwl's kristin rogers joins us

building which houses stacey walker's new office-- he was born and raised here in cedar rapids-- and is excited to be serving this county-- we spent some time one--on--one with him today. to stacey walker the oakhill jackson neighborhood--is home. "they used to have a playground here but it looks kindergarden." life for him--not always easy-- "we survived on welfare and food stamps and things of that nature. when i was 4 years old sister we went to live with my grandmother." they lived in this apartment--we took a look inside--walker striving to be a role model for the kids growing up here now. temperatures remain seasonable into next week, with a chance for rain tuesday and temperatures in the 40s. hopefully you've enjoyed our more sand mining will be happening in eastern iowa. clayton county officials have given final approval for mining to start on a nearly 750-acre parcel of land northwest of garnavillo and near clayton. health concerns have been raised by some who live near the site -- but the clayton county zoning board adjustment voted unanimously to approve a plan for underground sand mining this week. pattison sand company will head up the operation -- they say the expansion is needed to keep pace with its competitors. a 500-foot setback will stand between mine vent shafts and nearby homes in the area. county officials say health risks from the mining operations are low. . an iowa native is out of this world tonight -- and is making history as the oldest woman in to go to

achieved liftoff this afternoon -- launching kazakhstan on route to the international space station. whitson is 56 years old and is originally from ringgold county. this is her third total space mission and her second as commander. before leaving -- she talked about what she'll miss when she's away from home... "i think probably the thing that i find probably the most the lack of variety of the food." whitson grew up in the tiny town of beaconsfield -- which has a population of 15. she'll dock at the international space station with her fellow astronauts on saturday evening. little pantries have been popping up all over the untied states. thanks to one local woman--they
